De Stijl Art Movement De Stijl is a Dutch Art movement that originally started as a public magazine that was founded by two pioneers of Abstract art Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg. De Stijl (meaning style in Dutch) was officially established in 1917 in Amsterdam (thertstory.org.2018). The De Stijl movement of the Netherlands was partly influenced by the Dada movement, and the leading painter of the group came up with the official term for this new style of art which would describe the type of abstract art the De Stijl group practised: Neoplasticism. Neo meaning “new” and Plasticism referring to the “form” that art takes (Dan.2018). It was raised as a reaction towards World War 1. Dada was fuelled by other avant-garde movements namely Cubism, Futurism, Constructivism, and Expressionism (Dan.2018). It soon spread its diversity into art such as Photography, Sculpturing, Painting and creation of Collage to mention a few. Dadaism characteristics and aesthetics included factors such as motive to always be purposely negative and to always question the existence of everything in general. His artwork cover (Der Blaue Rieter Almanach) was created mostly to represent the art movements aesthetic as well as ideals. The artwork consists of very clear and outstanding features; these features include mainly the semi-abstract “Blue Rider” figure representing access to mobility. What is Futurism Futurism can be defined as a 20th century style art movement that was formed based on the focus to express the power, speed and values of the machine age ( www.dictionary.com ). The art style was originally started by a group of Italian men including the non-other, well know Italian poet and editor Filippo Tommaso Marinetti who was the ring leader of the foundation. On February 20,1909 the first official announcement of this new art style was made. Marinetti, being the one to compile up the first descriptive manifesto for himself and he’s artistic group’s Futurism movement, it was soon spread to many. It first appeared on the front page of Le Figaro, which at the time was the largest newspaper that had the biggest circulation in France and with that publicity stunt showed the movements ideology, desire and motives of employing this art style to the new and changing modern world was clearly explained to the public ( www.theartstory-futurism-html ). While the first
