My name is Daniel and I am a student at Pearson Institute of Higher Education currently studying to obtain a BA bachelor’s degree in graphic design and this is my first blog.


As a graphic designer it is not only a necessity but also an importance that we learn and have knowledge of all the wonderful history of art has to give, this not only teaches us merely about past artists and their artworks but also gives us an insight of their lives, the techniques and skills they used, the messages they were expressing and movements, ideologies and thoughts they instilled through art in order to change a people’s decisions, emotions, perspective of things through art. Without the history of art modern artists would not be who they are today and would not know neither have the principles, techniques and other basics that were set by ancient practitioners of art. We owe it all up to them as they explored, experimented, went through the sacrifices and went to the extent to not only create history, but to teach us modern people.

That said in these blogs that I will be writing from here on out, will be discussing topics regarding and concerning the history of art. The first two blogs will be about Arts and Crafts, and Post Impressionism, I will be also showing examples of artists and artworks of each of these topics both from the earlier time and modern times.

De Stijl Art Movement De Stijl is a Dutch Art movement that originally started as a public magazine that was founded by two pioneers of Abstract art Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg. Glasgow School and Vienenese Secession

Glasgow School and Viennese Secession Architecture, interior designing and painting were the three forms of art that were  the focus grow and nourished in the Glasgow world and since its beginning in the 1890’s(http://www.artscrafts.org.uk/branches/glasgow.html), the pioneers of Glasgow school were the “Glasgow Four” known as Charles Mackintosh, Herbert Macnair, Margret Macdonald and Frances Macdonald. These four men integrated a system of decorative forms and an overall look that was uniquely and exclusively their own, as they achieved a pared down version of Art Nouveau that paved the way for Modernist Minimalism. Their style featured a Scottish spirit  that was infused by means of heathery (resembling) colors and mystical Celtic symbols. Post impressionism In this blog I will be discussing the term impressionism and the reasons behind its existence, I will further more discuss about its characteristic and principles, where and when it was developed as well as provide some examples of the topic at hand. What is impressionism? Post impressionism is a movement mainly art concerned, that was developed in the 1890’s and was influenced by many approaches. Approaches that were mainly subjective as artist preferred to express emotion rather than realism in their work. Even though post impressionism consisted of many styles that widely varied, some paintings did however share a few similar qualities and characteristics, some of these included symbolic motifs, unnatural colours and painterly brush strokes.
